Maharaja Welcome
A Regal Tradition of Splendor and Grace
(Fit for Small / Large groups)
The Maharaja Welcome is a time-honored tradition passed down through generations, a royal gesture of hospitality that showcases the grandeur of royal hospitality in its most regal form. This opulent welcome has been accorded to special guests, dignitaries, and royal counterparts as they arrive at The Raj Palace, and it is an experience that truly embodies the magnificence and culture of Rajasthan.
The Grand Procession
The experience begins long before guests enter the palace gates, with a breathtaking procession that starts 200 yards away from the entrance. A grand parade of elephants and horses are adorned with intricate royal trappings, as they carry flag bearers and torch bearers (known as Mashal), creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and anticipation. This regal procession leads the guests toward the main entrance of the palace, where they are welcomed into the heart of royal hospitality.
Decor and Atmosphere
As the procession moves closer to the palace, the entire area is transformed into a sight to behold. Rangoli (traditional floor art), floral decorations, and a luxurious red carpet stretch along the path. The air is filled with the resonating sounds of centuries-old drums, accompanied by the mighty Bakia (grand trumpet), adding to the majestic aura of the arrival. This scene is not just a sight to behold but a symphony of sounds, sights, and aromas that transport guests into a world of grandeur.
Saluting Welcome with 21-Shot Fire Rider
Upon reaching the entrance, guests are treated to a saluting welcome, where the atmosphere crackles with excitement as 21 shots are fired from a fire rider, symbolizing a royal salute. A loud announcement rings out, heralding the arrival of each individual guest by name. This is performed by the Dyodi Van, a trusted official whose sole duty is to announce the names of those entering the palace, enhancing the sense of honor bestowed upon the guests.
Music, Dance, and Folk Performances
The regal welcome continues with an exhilarating performance by a large group of folk musicians. These talented men, each playing a different traditional Rajasthani musical instrument, perform in alternate Jharokas (windows) of the front façade of the palace, as well as on the roof along the corridors. Their music is synchronized to create a harmonious, rhythmic composition that adds depth and richness to the atmosphere. Simultaneously, Rajasthani folk dancers in vibrant, colorful costumes position themselves in alternate Jharokas. The main performer, poised and graceful, presents an awe-inspiring performance in the Central Chaupar.
Escort and Royal Umbrella
As the guests continue along their path, they are escorted by a troupe of procession musicians and dancers, who accompany them as they walk under the Royal Umbrella, a symbol of royal protection and grandeur. This umbrella adds a personal, regal touch to the arrival, ensuring that the guests feel as if they are truly the honored guests of the Maharaja.
The Welcome Drink
As guests step into the palace, they are offered a special cocktail or champagne, served as part of the welcome tradition. This drink, expertly crafted, is presented as a mark of hospitality and sets the tone for the evening ahead. Guests can savor this refreshing beverage while taking in the atmosphere of the grand palace, surrounded by opulence and tradition.
A Dreamlike Setting
The entire Maharaja Welcome is nothing short of a dreamlike spectacle, where every detail is meticulously crafted to offer a royal experience that blends Rajasthan's rich heritage with the luxurious setting of The Raj Palace.
